James T. Williams received his PhD in 2014 from the University of Pittsburgh. He remains a research associate at the Center for Comparative Archaeology at the University of Pittsburgh. His research focuses on the economics of Bronze Age societies in Mongolia and Northeast China. He studies the relationships between settlement patterning, environment, subsistence economies and social organization. During the Bronze Age, a radical change in subsistence economies has been proposed by a number of scholars. The findings from his regional survey in Zhangwu, Liaoning, suggest that subsistence economies remain more static than had been previously theorized. This economic persistence occurs despite marked demographic and climatic changes. Current research is focused on exploring that concept in a diverse array of environmental and socio-economic contexts.
