W. Moore is a world historian who writes on the history of
capitalism, environmental history, and global political economy. His
essays have appeared in Theory
& Society, The
Journal of Peasant Studies, The Journal of Agrarian
Change, Antipode, Review,
and many other journals, and have been translated into Chinese,
Turkish, German, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Italian. Some of
his essays awarded Bernstein
and Byres Prize in Agrarian Studies in 2010 and 2011, Distinguished
Scholarship Award of
American Sociological Association, Section on the Political Economy
of the World-System in 2004 and 2011, Alice
Hamilton Prize of American
Society for Environmental History in 2004.He is presently completing Ecology and the Rise of
Capitalism (University
of California Press) and Ecology
and the Accumulation of Capital (Verso). He is coordinator the World-Ecology Research Network, and a
member of the editorial boards of the Journal
of World-Systems Research, The Journal of Agrarian
Change, and Review.
